Brady Nicholas Hudson

Brady made his grand arrival on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 6:33 pm. He weighed 9 lbs 5 oz and was 21 inches long. We are so excited to have our little buddy with us now and it's already hard to believe what life was like without him.

Our adventure began on Wednesday, January 27 when I was admitted to get a jump start on labor with the drug called Cervidil. This basically is something that is inserted into your cervix ot help it prepare for labor, since my body wasn't staring the labor on it's own. After a pretty sleepless night, the drug Pitocin was started the next morning at 7:00 am to start my contractions.

Right away I began noticing the contractions even though they didn't really start getting painful until about 11:00 am. My doctor came in at around 10:00 am and there was no change in my cervix so the waiting game would continue. Around 11:00 am I decided that I was having quite a bit of pain and needed some medical intervention, so I was given some IV drugs to help with the pain. This worked for maybe 15 minutes, except for the fact that one of the drugs made me completely groggy the rest of the afternoon. Finally, at 12:30 pm it was time for an epidural. This I might say was one of the scariest thoughts for me, but at this point the contractions were so painful that I really didn't even feel anything when they started it. It only took a few minutes, and I was already feeling relief and quickly became numb from the waist down. This I would have to say was the end of my labor pain.

The doctor came in after the epidural and said that I had dilated to 5 cm, and it would probably be 5 hours before it was time to push. About an hour and a half later the doctor came back to check me and I was dilated to 9 cm. Finally around 5:45 pm it was time to start pushing. At this point I was still unable to feel anything and ended up pushing only 45 minutes before our beautiful son arrived.

Even though most of the day was a blur, I will never forget the moment that Brady was born. I already knew at that moment, that this would be one of the best memories of my life.

I think Brady is smiling at you in that one picture! I will tell Mom to go look at them, she says Daddy asks about him every day! Can't wait until he can visit them or they can come down your way!
